BANGOR — Husson University has suspended efforts to create Maine’s second law school.

Husson President Robert Clark made the announcement today, a month after the state supreme court denied the school’s request to let its graduates take the Maine bar exam.

The Supreme Judicial Court denied the application because the school did not plan to seek American Bar Association accreditation and it hadn’t yet opened its doors.

Husson officials had said they have appointed three experienced law school professors and if approved had planned to open the law school in the fall of 2010.

Maine now has one law school, the University of Maine School of Law, located in Portland.
