ALBION — A China woman died Monday night after the motorcycle she was driving swerved into an oncoming truck on Route 202, police said today.

Melina Paradis, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash report came in at 6:57 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies said Paradis had been traveling north on Route 202/ Unity Road with two other motorcyclists.

Witnesses said that Paradis, driving behind the lead motorcycle, unexpectedly swerved into an oncoming box truck, striking it head on, police said. Driving the truck was John Hageman, 59, of  Winslow Road, Albion.

The third motorcycle driver avoided the resulting debris from the accident. No other serious injuries were reported, police said.

“Initial information indicates that Mrs. Paradis had only obtained her motorcycle license the previous weekend, she was a very new operator,” Sheriff Randall Liberty said in a statement. “There is no reason to believe that alcohol or speed were a factor in this very unfortunate accident.”
