LEWISTON — A police officer who interrupted a convenience store robbery got his man in Lewiston.

Lt. Adam D. Higgins entered the store early Wednesday with his gun drawn to discover the clerk and the would-be robber in a struggle. Police say the bandit threw a knife in Higgins’ direction before fleeing.

Higgins found the man hiding outside and arrested him.

Police had been looking for a man fitting the description of 39-year-old suspect Rodney Morant following three robberies the same night. Police say Morant was out on bail for robbing a 7-Eleven store.

Police said the robberies likely were drug-related. The Sun Journal says Morant, who’s being held at the Androscoggin County Jail, was due to appear in drug court before his arrest.
