HOLDEN – Fields Pond Audubon Center will offer 16 free, local bird walks throughout May, in partnership with the Orono and Bangor land trusts and Penobscot Valley Audubon Chapter.

All levels of birders are invited to participate. Led by expert birders, the walks will take place from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on the designated dates at sites throughout Bangor, Orono, Holden, Hampden, Hermon, Brewer and Bradley.

The schedule is:

MAY 3: Gould’s Landing on Pushaw Lake, Orono. Meet in Gould’s Landing parking lot at the end of Essex Street.

MAY 5: Penjajawoc Marsh, Bangor. Meet at north end of Home Depot parking lot.

MAY 7: Ecotat Gardens and Arboretum, Hermon. Meet in Ecotat parking lot on Annis Road, just off Route 2.

MAY 11: Indian Trail, Brewer. Meet at Penobscot County Conservation Assocation, North Main Street.

MAY 12: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Meet in the parking area inside the State Street entrance.

MAY 14: Kenduskeag Stream Trail, Bangor. Meet in the parking lot upstream of the intersection of Valley Avenue and Bruce Road.

MAY 15: Fields Pond Audubon Center, Holden. Meet in the Fields Pond Audubon Center parking lot.

MAY 17: Avalon Village, Hampden. Meet at the parking lot at end of the main road into Avalon Village (Foxglove Drive, off Route 1A).

MAY 18: Leonard’s Mills, Bradley. Meet at the entrance to Leonard’s Mills (intersection of Route 178 and Government Road).

MAY 19: Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve, Bangor. Meet at BLT kiosk on Kitteridge Road, just before the power lines.

MAY 20: Essex Woods, Bangor. Meet in the parking lot at the end of Watchmaker Road.

MAY 22: Walden Parke Preserve, Bangor. From Essex St., turn into Walden Parke Way, right on Tamarack Trail to meet at its end.

MAY 24: University of Maine campus, Orono. Meet in the rear of the University Credit Union parking lot on Rangeley Road.

MAY 25: Saxl Park, Bangor. Meet in Cascade Park parking lot, just off State Street.

MAY 26: Technology Park, Orono. Meet in the parking lot behind the Microdyne Building on Godfrey Drive.

MAY 27: West Penjajawoc Preserve, Bangor. Meet at the dead end of Fox Hollow Lane, off Essex Street.
