MATINICUS ISLAND — The territorial feud over Matinicus Island’s lobster-rich fishing grounds continues, with violent consequences.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department says two lobstermen were arrested Monday following a weekend home invasion in which a Matinicus man was beaten and his gun stolen.

Sheriff Donna Dennison told the Bangor Daily News that all three were engaged in a territorial feud. Charged were 29-year-old Joshua Anthony, of Vinalhaven, and 38-year-old Jason Luce, of Warren.

Tensions remain high following the acquittal of a Matinicus lobsterman in the shooting of another lobsterman last summer. The feuds also have led to the cutting of trap lines and vandalizing of three boats in Owls Head.
