BRUNSWICK — Downeast Energy this week announced it is selling its building supply business to Hammond Lumber Co. of Belgrade.

The sale means Downeast Building Supply at 30 Spring St. will become Hammond Lumber Co. on Monday, May 10. The store’s current staff of more than 30 employees will be retained by Hammond, according to a press release from Downeast Energy.

According to the release, Downeast decided to sell the 102-year-old business to focus on its energy business and adapt to “market changes.”

The building supply store will close Saturday and reopen on Monday. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
