INDIAN TOWNSHIP — A Maine Indian tribe is coming out against a November referendum asking voters if they want a casino in western Maine.

The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township says Black Bear Entertainment’s proposal for a casino resort in Oxford County is too restrictive and “allows for the monopolization of future gaming in Maine.”

Tribal Gov. William Nicholas says the tribe supports allowing the Hollywood Slots casino in Bangor, the state’s only casino, to have table games in addition to slot machines.

Maine voters in 2003 and again in 2007 rejected referendums from Maine’s tribes seeking approval for a tribal casino.
