The first full week of spring sports action was memorable for many reasons. Here’s why:

Baseball

The Brunswick baseball team has had the most success out of local teams this spring. The Dragons are now 3-3 on the year after wins last week over Morse, 8-7, and Mt. Ararat, 2-1, and a 4-1 loss at undefeated Oxford Hills Monday. Brunswick (sixth in the Eastern A Heal Points standings as of Tuesday) goes to Brewer Friday and plays host to Hampden Monday.

Mt. Ararat is now 2-4 on the year and is on a three-game skid after recent losses to Brunswick (2-1), Lewiston (11-1) and Oxford Hills (10-0). The Eagles (12th in Eastern A) are at Skowhegan Friday and play at Erskine Monday.

Morse is still seeking its first victory in 2010. The Shipbuilders fell in recent action at Brunswick (8-7), at home against Oxford Hills (12-2) and at Edward Little (12-2). Morse (14th in the region) hosted Lewiston Tuesday, plays at Messalonskee Friday and welcomes Bangor Monday.

Boys’ lacrosse

Defending Eastern A boys’ lacrosse champion Brunswick is up to its old tricks. The Dragons improved to 2-0 on the year with an easy 14-1 home win over Cony Friday. Brunswick (sixth in the Eastern A Heals as of Tuesday and fifth in the latest coaches’ poll) was at Edward Little Tuesday, has a showdown at two-time defending Class B champion Yarmouth Saturday and plays at Mt. Blue Tuesday.

Mt. Ararat, which dropped its first two games, evened its record at 2-2 with recent wins over Mt. Blue (13-1) and Edward Little (11-9). In the latter game, Dylan Bousquet-Smith erupted for seven goals. The Eagles (third in Eastern A) then improved to 3-2 Tuesday with a 17-3 win over Oxford Hills (Bousquet-Smith scored eight times).
