BANGOR — A service vehicle at Maine’s Bangor International Airport struck and killed two dogs belonging to actor John Travolta.

The city says the accident happened as the dogs were being walked on the tarmac after an airplane carrying members of Travolta’s family landed early on May 13.

Airport spokeswoman Risteen Masters says the pets were small dogs, but she didn’t have further details. Travolta’s spokesman didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment today.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Travolta, an accomplished pilot, often flies to Bangor while en route to his home on Islesboro off the Maine coast. It’s unclear whether he was in the cockpit on the night of the incident.
