BANGOR — The city of Bangor is considering hiring a Maine company to help prepare for the possible construction of a new 5,400-seat arena.

The city council’s finance committee on Monday approved hiring Cianbro Corp. of Pittsfield to handle all preconstruction services associated with the design and building of the new arena, which could be expanded to 7,400 seats.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the full city council is expected to approve the decision for the $175,000 preconstruction services contract next week.

Estimates for the first phase of the arena project range from $40 million to $55 million. A second phase would cost an estimated $10 million to $15 million.
