SOUTH PORTLAND — The fire that damaged Red’s Dairy Freeze was electrical and started in a combination exhaust fan and light in a bathroom, according to the Fire Department.
The fire early Sunday morning started in the rear of the building at 167 Cottage Road and caused severe damage in that portion of the structure.
Chris Bolling, the owner, and his employees started cleaning out the building Monday. The work continued today as they shoveled debris out of the building and pulled out the ice cream machines for the equipment company to pick up and assess.
Bolling said the extent of the structural damage to the building still needs to be determined. He said it’s unclear at this point when the business will be able to reopen.
