FALMOUTH — Construction will begin Monday, May 24, on the Route 100 (Gray Road) highway overpass near West Falmouth Crossing and the Maine Turnpike spur.

Both lanes will remain open as much as possible, Maine Turnpike Authority officials said, although there may be times when traffic will be restricted to one lane, controlled by flaggers. It is likely traffic will move slowly through the area until construction is completed, MTA said.

The project is expected to take three to four weeks, but the exact amount of time will not be known until workers remove the surface layer of pavement and determine the condition of the bridge deck.

Turnpike officials suggested drivers who commute via Route 100 leave extra time or seek an alternate route.
