Matt Howard hit a three-run homer during a four-run fourth inning to lead the University of Maine to a 6-2 win over Maryland-Baltimore County in the first game of an America East baseball doubleheader Saturday at Baltimore, Md.

Maine completed a sweep with a 5-3 victory in its final game of the regular season. The Black Bears (34-20, 17-7 America East) will be the No. 2 seed for the America East tournament, which starts Wednesday at Vestal, N.Y.

Justin Leisenheimer and Tony Patane each added an RBI in the opener, and Myckie Lugbauer gave up one run on four hits over five innings to earn the win.

Michael Fransoso went 3 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored in the second game. Joey Martin, Joe Mercurio and Tony Patane drove in the other runs.

SYLVIA WINS: Ellsworth native Tim Sylvia defeated Poland’s Mariusz Pudzianowski in the main event at the Moosin: God of Martial Arts event at Worcester, Mass., on Friday night.

Sylvia achieved side control on the ground early in the second round and pounded out Pudzianowski, a five-time World’s Strongest Man champion, 1 minute and 43 seconds into the round.
