Sherman is a miniature Pinscher mix who is bossy, busy, independent and high energy. These traits will come as no surprise to those who know and love Min Pins. For Sherman to be the best he can be, he needs a human companion who will provide the three C’s of leadership – calm, confident and consistent – plus lots of mental and physical activity. This is not a boy who can be expected to nap in a sunbeam most of the day.

Mary Jane is a 10-year-old spayed female short-haired brown tiger with white. For many cats, the adjustment to shelter life is an experience just too much to bear. They are unable to comprehend why they are here, and uncertain about who they can trust in life. This is the case with our Mary Jane. Before she landed at the ARL, Mary Jane – unspayed – was out on the streets trying to defend herself while also suffering from an infected uterus.  She has developed into a sweet, affectionate cat – and quite the lap dweller. But her new family should not expect instant results. She will take a while to warm up.  If you are interested, call Sarah Ashe at 854-9771 or e-mail her at sashe@arlgp.org

Bumblebee is a sweet black and white female hamster. Although she came in with Sage, hamsters are solitary animals and love being alone. Remember that daily handling is required to keep hamsters tame. As nocturnal animals, they are up at night and sleep during the day, so try to keep stirring them to a minimum. Too little nap time can cause them to become ill.

ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY

The following pets are available from the Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk. Call 985-3244 or visit www.animalwelfaresociety.org.

Pepper, a 3-year old Rhodesian ridgeback mix, is an active and high-spirited dog who is eagerly awaiting a forever home. He’s a bright boy, and would love to spend time learning tricks with his new owners. He should do fine sharing a home with dog-savvy cats, other dogs and respectful children of all ages.

Muffin is a 12-year-old cat, a quiet but supersweet girl. She should do just fine sharing her new home with other cats and calm, quiet children. Lenny is a 1-year-old Guinea pig,  a curious little guy that would love to have a little hideaway to nap in, toys to chew on and healthy treats of fruits and veggies to munch on.
