Westbrook police are still investigating an accident that happened Friday which killed one and injured another.

Killed in the accident was Jana L. Pooler, 22, formerly of Westbrook and Limington, and East Cove Street in Portland. Injured in the crash was a 24-year-old passenger, Danielle Duguay, of Windham.

Police say Pooler was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car at the scene. Police Chief William Baker believes Duguay was wearing a seatbelt and said she has been released from Maine Medical Center. Alcohol and speed are likely factors in the accident, he said.

Baker said Pooler and Duguay were both out of the vehicle when police and emergency responders arrived at the scene. Baker said he believes Pooler was driving, but the department is still investigating to make sure its conclusions are accurate. Baker said officers are still conducting interviews and performing additional forensic tests.

Baker declined to release the name of the local bar where a witness suggested Pooler and Duguay were possibly over-served. He said the department is still investigating.

Capt. Tom Roth said he did not know Pooler and Duguay’s blood alcohol levels.
