BUCKSPORT — A Maine paper company is hiring at two of its mills in the state.

The Verso Paper Co. has hired about 200 permanent and temporary summer employees for its mills in Bucksport and Jay.

The Bangor Daily News says it marks the first time in several years that Verso has advertised for workers.

Verso spokesman Bill Cohen says the company hired 20 permanent employees and 79 temporary summer employees in Bucksport and 32 permanent and 78 temporary workers in Jay.

He says the hiring reflects the company’s need to hire and train new workers to replace employees nearing retirement age.

Cohen says about 40 percent of the work force will reach retirement age by 2017.

He says more vacancies are anticipated.
