PORTLAND  — Tuesday’s primaries are prompting early activity in some Maine communities.

Portland says it will open City Hall on Saturday to allow absentee voting and voter registration in advance of Tuesday’s primaries.

Voters will select party nominees for Maine governor and have their say on a number of bond issues and a public question.

Unenrolled voters can join a party up to and including June 8 in order to vote in the primary election. The referendum is open to all voters.

In Portland, the city clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday for residents interested in registering to vote or voting by absentee ballot for the election.
