SCARBOROUGH – A Scarborough High School graduate injured last month in a car accident that killed his best friend hours before the Gorham High School prom was involved in another car accident this morning.

Kevin Grondin, 19, was involved in an accident that closed U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough from Haigis Parkway to Milliken Road near Anjon’s Restaurant, according to Scarborough Public Safety.

Scarborough police said Grondin, of Scarborough, was operating a 1996 Red Chevrolet pick-up truck, which witnesses say crossed the centerline on Route 1 into the path of a 1992 Black Western Star tractor trailer truck driven by Ryan Dube, 20, of Sidney.

Grondin was transported by Scarborough Rescue to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. A spokeswoman at Maine Medical Center in Portland said Monday morning that Grondin was “being evaluated at this time.”

Police said Ryan Dube was not injured in the accident.

On May 8, Grondin was one of three passengers in the car driven by Steven Delano, a Scarborough High School senior. The car Delano was driving collided with a tanker truck at the intersection of Payne and Holmes roads in Scarborough. The truck driver was unhurt, but Delano was killed and his passengers were injured.

Scarborough High School Principal Patricia Conant could not be reached immediately for comment.

Scarborough Police, Scarborough Fire Department, Maine State Police and Maine Department of Environmental Protection were at the scene this morning. The cause of the accident, which was reported at about 9 a.m., is still under investigation.
