NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Four Maine athletes won their events Saturday to lead the state’s contingent at the New England track and field championships at Veterans’ Stadium.

Biddeford junior Keila Grigware repeated as champion in the girls’ javelin throw; Kennebunk sophomore Abbey Leonardi placed first in the girls’ 3,200-meter run; Brunswick senior Will Geoghegan won the boys’ 1,600-meter run; and Greely senior Mark McCauley placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 52.8 seconds.

Grigware’s throw of 136 feet, 4 inches was nearly 14 feet better than that of Krista Vincent of Somersworth, N.H.

Leonardi won her race by 3.4 seconds over Lindsay Crevoiserat of Glastonbury, Conn., coming in at 10:26.48.

Geoghegan finished in 4:13.15, beating out Isaac Fithian of Prospect Mountain High School (N.H.) by less than a second. Henry Sterling of North Yarmouth Academy finished fifth at 4:15.62, Jack Terwilliger of Cheverus was ninth at 4:17.95 and Alex Moser of York was 10th at 4:18.65.

Kellen MacDonald of Falmouth was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (40.03), and Patrick Ciez of Windham was fourth in the high jump (6-7).

Among the girls, Christy Manning of Scarborough was third in the discus (119-11), Greely’s Katherine Harrington was fifth in the discus (115-1), Biddeford’s Maria Curit was sixth in the long jump (17-53/4) and Hannah Lyons of Cheverus was eighth in the long jump (16-91/4).
