BANGOR — The state-run Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center in Bangor has a new superintendent.
Linda Abernethy is a nurse administrator and seven-year veteran at the Bangor facility with experience in for-profit, nonprofit and public health sectors.
A graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Abernethy earned her masters degree in nursing at the University of Texas at El Paso and worked many years in the El Paso area.
Abernethy returned to Maine in 1999 and worked for Blue Hill Memorial Hospital before joining Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center in 2003.
Maine’s other state psychiatric center is in Augusta.
