PORTLAND – Jamie Ross pitched a one-hitter to lead Nova Seafood to a 7-0 victory over Andrews Post in an American Legion baseball season opener on Thursday.

Ross, who walked none and struck out three, also drove in four runs with a single, double and triple.

STOCKHOUSE 14, YARMOUTH 1: Lance Ludka went 2 for 2, scored three times and stole four bases as Stockhouse (1-0) beat Yarmouth (0-1) in five innings at Westbrook.

Zach Gardiner added two hits and three RBI, and Scott Heath had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one.

Mark Dvilinsky, Sean Murphy and Joe Dvilinsky combined to pitch a two-hitter.

LIBBY-MITCHELL 5, MOODY’S 1: Joe Cronin, Lincoln Sanborn and Ben Wessel combined for 11 strikeouts while pitching a four-hitter as Libby-Mitchell (1-0) downed Moody’s (0-1) at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.

Joe Davis had three walks and drove in a run for Libby-Mitchell. Kevin Philbrick added an RBI single and Ian Ramsdell had two hits.

FAYETTE-STAPLES 5, YORK POST 56 1: Keegan Sullivan pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks as visiting Fayette-Staples (1-0) defeated York Post 56 (0-1).

Alex Newton had two hits, including a solo homer and double, and scored twice.

Sam Butts and Steve Trask each hit a double for Fayette-Staples.

BONANZA OF SANFORD 8, NOBLE POST 87 5: Dave Hamilton and Ryan Graffam had RBI singles during a five-run fourth inning, and Bonanza of Sanford (1-0) held off Noble Post 87 (0-1) at North Berwick.

Hamilton also allowed just two hits over five innings and struck out seven to earn the win.

Jeremy Gearty hit an RBI triple for Noble, and Dave Sullivan added an RBI single.

STAPLES CROSSING 12, MASSABESIC 6: Jacob Chamblee and Ethan Hawes each drove in two runs to lead Staples Crossing (1-0) over Massabesic (0-1) at South Berwick.

Chamblee finished with four hits, including three doubles, and Hawes added three hits.

Massabesic got a pair of singles from Travis Mansfield and a double from Ryan Morse.

LEBANON 14, SANFORD 8: Lebanon (1-1) had 22 hits to support Colby Adams in a victory at Sanford (0-3)

WINDHAM 11, FAYETTE-STAPLES 10: Shawn Francoeur had two hits and scored a run to help Windham beat Fayette-Staples at Saco.

Windham scored six runs in sixth to tie the game at 9, then added two in the seventh to take an 11-9 lead.

Dylan Morton had three hits and an RBI for Fayette-Staples. Cam Jackman had three hits and two RBI, and Mike Mynahan added two hits and two RBI.

NOTES

FLAHERTY’S DEBUT: Former Deering High standout Regan Flaherty is expected to make his debut this weekend with the Sanford Mainers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Flaherty, who played on three Class A state championship teams, joined the Mainers after his freshman year at Vanderbilt. He hit .292 in 20 games.

The Mainers, who lead the NECBL’s Eastern Division, will be in Massachusetts tonight to play the North Adams Steeplecats, then host Vermont on Saturday.

 

MORAN SIGNS: Former St. Joseph’s pitcher Pat Moran of Winterport signed a contract with the Pittsfield Colonials in the Can-Am League and pitched two perfect innings in his debut Wednesday night against Brockton.
