NYA runner shines at nationals

North Yarmouth Academy senior Henry Sterling competed in his final high school race last weekend at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. Sterling, a multiple-state champion in distance events during his time in a Panthers uniform, won his heat and was 10th in the country in the boys’ 5,000 with a time of 15 minutes, 17 seconds, a new personal best and school record.

Freeport coaching openings

RSU No. 5 has several coaching openings for the upcoming school year. Freeport High School is seeking a girls’ varsity basketball coach, a girls’ JV soccer coach, an assistant varsity football coach and an assistant Nordic ski coach. Durham Middle School needs boys’ and girls’ cross country coaches, as well as a girls’ ‘B’ basketball coach. At Freeport Middle School, there are openings for boys’ basketball, 7th grade boys’ soccer, girls’ lacrosse and field hockey and 8th grade baseball and boys’ and girls’ lacrosse. FMI, 865-4706.

Officials assignor sought

The Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) and the Western Maine Conference are jointly seeking an officials assignor for field hockey, soccer and lacrosse. To apply, send a letter of interest and current resume via e-mail to Susan Robbins at Susan_Robbins@yarmouth.k12.me.us by Friday.

Yarmouth High varsity football coach Jim Hartman and his staff will host a 1st-and-Ten Football camp next month, teaching the fundamentals of the sport, as well as offensive and defensive schemes. Maine Premier Lacrosse summer registration open

The third season of Maine Premier Lacrosse for boys’ and girls’ in high school is holding open registration the season which runs July 6 through Aug. 3. Girls play Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Boys play Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. FMI, 671-2421 or mainepremierlax.com.

Cougar Field Hockey Camp upcoming

The Cougar Field Hockey Camp, featuring current college coaches and players, will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 28 through July 1, at Fitzpatrick Stadium. All ages and all skill levels are welcome. The cost is $200 a player, or $100 a player for a team of 10. FMI, fieldhockeyme.com.

Mainley Stars field hockey camp next month

The Mainley Stars field hockey camp, taught by the Greely High coaching staff and some players, will teach all skill levels, July 12 through 15. Times are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m for younger players and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for older athletes. The camp is held at the Greely high school field hockey field. The morning session is $90, full day is $180. McAuley summer camps upcoming

There is still time to register for summer camps at McAuley. Softball and lacrosse go from June 28-July 2. Basketball camps run from July 5-9 and 12-16. Field hockey and soccer camps are July 19-23.
