HARRISON — A Harrison man is expected to be charged with aggravated reckless conduct tonight after authorities say he grabbed the steering wheel from his girlfriend and forced her car down an embankment.

Ethan C. Herrick, 36, was taken into custody by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department after the accident, which took place around 4:15 p.m. near 214 Naples Road in Harrison.

Capt. Jeff Davis said Herrick allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend, 22-year-old Tamra Benoit of Bridgton, during what she described was a “heated argument.”

Benoit told police Herrick grabbed hold of the steering wheel – she was driving – and forced her off the road. Benoit’s 2002 Chevy sedan went down an embankment and hit several trees.

Benoit, who was pulled from the wreck by a passerby, was transported to Bridgton Hospital for treatment of a back injury.
