NEW YORK — The World Series champion New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have a leading six All-Stars each, but Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia and catcher Victor Martinez are out with injuries.

Other Red Sox players on the AL team: pitchers Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester; DH David Ortiz and third baseman Adrian Beltre.

Fans have the final say on the one remaining roster spot in an Internet runoff between five players for each league. Boston’s Kevin Youkilis is among the five in the AL, along with Chicago’s Paul Konerko, New York’s Nick Swisher, Minnesota’s Delmon Young and Texas’ Michael Young.

Second baseman Robinson Cano and shortstop Derek Jeter of the Yankees are starters for the AL.

Yankees Manager Joe Girardi made several difficult decisions in finalizing the AL squad. He left off Andy Pettitte and took teammate CC Sabathia, both 10-game winners, and selected slugger Alex Rodriguez, who only has 12 homers but 61 RBI. Two other Yankees pitchers were selected: starter Phil Hughes and reliever Mariano Rivera.

Major League baseball announced the All-Star teams today for the July 13 game at Anaheim, Calif.
