AUGUSTA — A Sidney man has died as a result of injuries he suffered when he crashed his off-road motorcycle into a tree Monday.

Shannon Post, 34, was being treated for hip, rib and other injuries at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta when he died Monday evening, said Deborah Turcotte, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

The accident occurred around 12:15 p.m., as Post was driving a Kawasaki 250 cc dirt bike on an all-terrain vehicle trail off Scenic Drive West. Post, who was wearing a helmet, as well as chest, waist and kidney protection, lost control of his motorcycle and struck a tree, Turcotte said.

Post was riding in a group with two other bikers.

Sidney and Belgrade Fire and Rescue responded to the accident and took Post to the hospital, Turcotte said.

Game wardens continue to investigate the accident, she said.
