BAR HARBOR – Ryan Gay of Pittston won the 2010 Maine Amateur Championship this afternoon at Kebo Valley Golf Club.
Gay, a Pittston resident who will be a sophomore at the University of New Mexico, won the three-day tournament by shooting a 212 (72-68-72) to finish one stroke ahead of Augusta’s Jason Gall (67-74-72) and Thomaston’s Ricky Jones (71-73-69).
Gay trailed Gall by one stroke going into the 17th hole, but Gall double-bogeyed the par-4 hole while Gay made par to take the lead. The trio of Gay, Gall and Madison’s Seth Sweet finished the tournament by making par on the 18th hole, but Gall missed a chance to force a playoff when his putt for birdie hit the lip of the cup, then spun out and to the right.
