MEXICO — Maine has its share of lawnmower races and lobster boat races. In the western Maine town of Mexico, people are racing old-fashioned outhouses.

Dubbed the Outhouse Blowout, today’s races at the town’s Recreation Park will feature outhouses on wheels racing in heats along a 500-foot course.

Each outhouse will have two people pushing, two pulling and one person sitting on the hole inside.

Organizer Peter Merrill says the races are a way to have some community fun, with proceeds going to benefit the park.
