KENNEBUNK — Former President George H.W. Bush’s fishing boat ended up high and dry on Gooch’s Beach this afternoon, after it ran aground in thick fog, according to the Association Press.

Bush spokesman Jim Appleby said the former president and some family members were aboard when the boat ran aground between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. No one was hurt.

The Fidelity IV became a curiosity for tourists as it sat stranded on the beach. Hours later, his staff moved the boat to its dock in Kennebunkport.

Appleby says Bush was close to shore in low visibility when a wave pushed his boat onto the beach. As water receded at low tide, tourists walked up and snapped photos of the 38-foot boat.
