BRUNSWICK – Dr. Donald D. Kalvoda, 58, died at home July 9.

Born in Northville, Mich., on June 16, 1952, the son of Joseph and Helen (Marcoe) Kalvoda, he spent his childhood in Plymouth, Mich.

On Aug. 13, 1972, he married Sharon Widing.

After graduating from Andrews University in Michigan, he attended Loma Linda University in California, where he received his medical degree in orthopedic surgery.

He served in the U.S. Army, and following an honorable discharge in 1985, he and his family moved to Brunswick.  

In addition to his medical practice as an orthopedic surgeon, he also owned and operated Victoria’s Bakery in Brunswick.

A longtime member of the Brunswick Seventh Day Adventist Church, his faith was very important to him.  

His hobbies included gardening, music, baking, spending time with his grandchildren and mission work.

Having touched the lives of many in the community and around the world, he will be missed  by his family and everyone who knew him.

He was predeceased by his mother, and a sister, Geraldine McLean.

Surviving are his wife Sharon of Brunswick; a daughter, Autumn (Kalvoda) Poole of St. Joseph, Mich.; a son, Aaron Kalvoda of Durham; his father Joseph of Olympia, Wash.; a sister, Dr. Sandra Ritland; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 14 at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick.

A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at the Brunswick United Methodist Church, Church Road, Brunswick.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mexican Mission Fund, c/o The Brunswick Seventh Day Adventist Church, 333 Maine St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
