ADDRESS: 18 Mountain Road

DENOMINATION/AFFILIATION: American Baptist Churches

HISTORY: West Falmouth Baptist Church has had roots in Falmouth and the surrounding communities since 1829.

In 1839, the need for a meetinghouse was determined, and a roomy structure, part of the present-day building, was raised on the present location.

The church has recently seen major renovation and expansion. A new wing was added in the 1990s to accommodate a growing Sunday School program and to expand the Fellowship Hall.

The church again underwent a major refit last spring to better serve worship needs in the new century. Modern projection and sound systems now blend seamlessly into the worship. The sanctuary was given a brighter, more open feel to better reflect the belief that God works in and among his people.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, small groups (open to anyone in the community) cover everything from Saul to “The Shack,” and a new “Bible Explorers” Sunday School helps children learn and grow through hands-on experiences.

Outreach to the community and to the world includes participation in area programs to feed people in need and support overseas missionaries. A community food shelf at the church (open from 10:30 to 11:30 every Sunday morning) offers fresh vegetables and baked goods to anyone who needs them.

The church hosts a public bean supper on the last Saturday of each month, and a craft fair is held once a year in November. Both events help support various mission projects.

The free Vacation Bible School is a popular program for area children. Registration for this year’s VBS is currently posted on the website.

WORSHIP SERVICES: 10 a.m. Sundays, with Sunday School and nursery available for children at this time.
