PORTLAND — Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion this morning announced he will seek the Democratic nomination to represent the North Deering neighborhood and West Falmouth in the state House of Representatives.
Dion, who will not seek a fourth term as sheriff in November, would replace current District 113 state Rep. Joan Cohen, D-Portland. Dion’s announcement said Cohen has decided not to run despite having appeared on the June primary ballot.
Cohen withdrew on July 6, according to the secretary of state’s office. The Republican candidate in the district, Charles C.S. Burns, has also pulled out.
The Democratic party will caucus Saturday, July 25, at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Allen Avenue to choose its nominee in District 113.
