OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Sam Canales had three hits, including two triples, and drove in two runs Thursday night to lead second-seeded Fayette-Staples to the American Legion Zone 5 baseball championship with a 14-3 victory in seven innings against top-seeded Staples Crossing at The Ballpark.

Chris Stasio added three hits and four runs for Fayette-Staples (16-4) against Staples Crossing (15-5).

Jeff Gelinas struck out five in a five-hitter, and Alex Newton had two hits and two RBI for Fayette-Staples.

Fayette-Staples qualified for the upcoming state tournament. Staples Crossing can still earn a spot Saturday when it plays Zone 1 runner-up Bangor.

JUNIOR LEGION

FALMOUTH 8, SCARBOR-OUGH 3: Connor Murphy gave up one earned run on three hits, as Falmouth (10-8) beast visiting Scarborough (6-11).

Alex Cattell had a two-run single in the fifth inning to give Falmouth a two-run lead. Chris Leete added a single and a double.

Jayme Lappin scored twice on two hits for Scarborough, including a double.

FAYETTE-STAPLES 9, FREEPORT MEDICAL 4: Fayette-Staples took advantage of three errors and got an RBI single from Nick Kenney during a six-run sixth inning to rally past Freeport Medical (4-14) at Saco.

Kenney finished with two hits, and Cam Jackman added three hits and a run.

Nick Cartmell had two hits and two RBI for Freeport Medical.

OA-YARMOUTH 7, FIRST TITLE 4: Ryan Cody had a double and an RBI triple for OA-Yarmouth (12-6) at home against First Title (4-14).

Calvin Cooper earned the save after entering in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and getting a strikeout.

BABE RUTH BASEBALL

CENTRAL MAINE 8, TRI-COUNTY SOUTH 1: Dylan Hapworth threw a one-hitter, and had three hits and three RBI to lead Central Maine past Tri-County South in the Babe Ruth 13-year-old state tournament at Skowhegan.

KENNEBUNK 6, SOMERSET 5: Danny Dubois hit a double and drove in two runs to lift Kennebunk over Somerset.

CENTRAL MAINE 13, PORTLAND 9: Ryan Dubois doubled and drove in three runs to lead Central Maine past Portland.

LITTLE LEAGUE

CUMBERLAND/NORTH YARMOUTH 8, CAPE ELIZABETH 4: Caleb Normandeau went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI to lead Cumberland/North Yarmouth past Cape Elizabeth in the District 6 Little League 11-12 year-old final at Falmouth.
