Portland, Somerset avoid elimination from Bath Ruth 13 state tournament

Sam Luebbert held Brunswick to two hits and Portland stayed alive in the Babe Ruth baseball state tournament for 13-year-olds with a 12-0 win at Skowhegan.

Patrick Ball, Kevin Goldberg and Dominic DiMillo each drove in two runs for Portland, which faces Somerset in another elimination game today.

Trey Michonski doubled and drove in five runs to pace Somerset to an 8-3 win over Tri-County South in an elimination game.

Ben Salley was the winning pitcher.

Billy Bickford, Kaleb Bridgham and Lukas Johnson each had an RBI for Tri-County.

BABE RUTH 14: Matt Beauchesne went 4 for 5 to help Tri-County South beat Scarborough 10-7 in a winners’ bracket game of the Babe Ruth state tournament for 14-year-olds, at Harrison.

Chris Tinsman had three hits for Scarborough.

Cam Abbott struck out eight, drove in three runs and scored three times to lead Franklin County to a 10-0 win over Bonny Eagle in an elimination game.

Tyler Hutchinson and Carson Dalheim each drove in two runs as Apple Valley eliminated Midcoast North with an 11-0 victory.

TWILIGHT LEAGUE: Andrew Stacy pitched six strong innings to lead Maine-Ly Mobile to a 3-2 win over Patriot Insurance at Deering Oaks.

Spike Einsiedler had two doubles and scored a run, and Matt Bickford homered for Patriot.
