Portland, Somerset avoid elimination from Bath Ruth 13 state tournament
Sam Luebbert held Brunswick to two hits and Portland stayed alive in the Babe Ruth baseball state tournament for 13-year-olds with a 12-0 win at Skowhegan.
Patrick Ball, Kevin Goldberg and Dominic DiMillo each drove in two runs for Portland, which faces Somerset in another elimination game today.
• Trey Michonski doubled and drove in five runs to pace Somerset to an 8-3 win over Tri-County South in an elimination game.
Ben Salley was the winning pitcher.
Billy Bickford, Kaleb Bridgham and Lukas Johnson each had an RBI for Tri-County.
BABE RUTH 14: Matt Beauchesne went 4 for 5 to help Tri-County South beat Scarborough 10-7 in a winners’ bracket game of the Babe Ruth state tournament for 14-year-olds, at Harrison.
Chris Tinsman had three hits for Scarborough.
• Cam Abbott struck out eight, drove in three runs and scored three times to lead Franklin County to a 10-0 win over Bonny Eagle in an elimination game.
• Tyler Hutchinson and Carson Dalheim each drove in two runs as Apple Valley eliminated Midcoast North with an 11-0 victory.
TWILIGHT LEAGUE: Andrew Stacy pitched six strong innings to lead Maine-Ly Mobile to a 3-2 win over Patriot Insurance at Deering Oaks.
Spike Einsiedler had two doubles and scored a run, and Matt Bickford homered for Patriot.
