ORLAND — A 14-year-old boy has died after being struck on his bicycle by a pickup truck in the Maine town of Orland.

Chief Deputy Dick Bishop of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department told the Bangor Daily News that the boy was riding with three friends on a side street when he rode onto Route 1 into the path of the truck at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the boy and the driver have not been released.
