Traffic is at a standstill Friday around noon on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth after a truck hauling wood chips flipped over in the median near the Royal River bridge and spilled its load and fuel. The truck was reportedly hit by a northbound Buick and then hit a southbound car. One lane in each direction was eventually reopened, but by that time traffic had backed up for miles in both directions and spilled over onto Route 1. The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as 58-year-old Roderick Lander of Guilford. The driver of the Buick that hit the truck was 64-year-old David Gilbert of Berwick and the driver of the southbound car was 27-year-old Brad Kelly of Brunswick. State police said the drivers reported minor injuries. The scene was photographed looking south from the Bayview Street overpass.
