Traffic is heavy, but now moving at normal highway speeds, state police report, after the one-vehicle crash at mile 44 northbound on the Maine Turnpike.
The driver of the rented truck, Louis Agathos, 77, probably fell asleep, said Trooper Mike Cook. Agathos declined to talk to police, Cook said, but authorities came to that conclusion after looking into accident this morning.
Agathos hit four or five “jersey barriers” below the Gorham Road overpass, Cook said. The barriers were there to protect workers who ar repairing concrete on the overpass.
No one was hurt in the accident, and Agathos was wearing a seat belt, Cook said.
The norhtbound lanes were completely re-opened shortly before noon, he said.
9:41 a.m.
State Police report that two lanes are now open on the Maine Turnpike northbound following a truck crash this morning.
The Maine Turnpike Authority says that the right two lanes are now open with the passing lane remaining closed. Emergency crews are still on the scene and motorists are asked to be especially cautious in the area.
8:30 a.m.
SCARBOROUGH – An accident at Mile 44 on I-95 has backed up traffic for several miles.
A truck mishap is blocking much of the northbound lane.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area until the accident is cleared.
