SOUTH PORTLAND — Of 12 tuna caught during the 13th Sturdivant Tuna Tournament, a 684-pound tuna, caught Thursday by Tyler McLaughlin aboard the Pacifier, took first place at final weigh-in Saturday night.
The second-place tuna, weighing 481.9 pounds, also was brought in on the Pacifier.
None of the boats in this year’s tournament topped the 819-pound Maine State Rod and Reel record, leaving the $50,000 grand prize unclaimed. First prize was awarded $6,250 and second- through fifth-place winners received $3,250, $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively.
Also placing were a 437.5-pound tuna brought in on Hooker I for third place, a 408.3-pound tuna on the Cindy K for fourth place and a 395.5-pound tuna on the Kathleen Jean for fifth place.
There were 40 boats on the water for this year’s tournament, which started Thursday and ended at 6 p.m. Saturday.
