TOPSHAM — The 32nd annual Maine Highland Games will be held at the Topsham Fairgrounds on Saturday, Aug. 21.
After being held for two decades at Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick, the games have moved to facilitate expanded activity. The fairgrounds are 1.2 miles from Interstate 295 Exit 31.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The schedule includes massed pipe band performances on the parade ground at noon and 5 p.m., as well as a parade of the clans, harp workshops and concerts, a Celtic jam session, a fiddle workshop, kilt-making demonstrations, Highland cattle demonstrations, a youth athletics competition, and frequent musical performances by Charlie Zahm and Colin Grant-Adams.
Celtic Colours and Pogey will perform throughout the day, and there will be plenty of Scottish food to enjoy, including bridies and maybe even haggis.
The St. Andrews Society of Maine sponsores the event. Proceeds go toward scholarships for people training in traditional Celtic arts like piping, language, drumming, harp, fiddle, Highland dance and kilt making.
