SCARBOROUGH — A traffic stop for a red light violation and an unsecured load led to an arrest earlier today of a Westbrook man.
Scarborough Police Officer Shawn Anastasoff arrested 53-year-old Stephen Fairbanks for theft, possession of burglar tools, and two counts of violating his condition of release. He was being held tonight at the Cumberland County Jail.
Anastasoff said that after he pulled Fairbanks’ pickup truck over, he noticed a load of scrap metal in the bed of the truck, which he later determined to have been stolen from a business in the Scarborough Industrial Park.
The arrest took place around noon Sunday on the Haigis Parkway in Scarborough. A male passenger was released.
