RICHMOND, Va. – Matt Sheely scored on a two-out double by Chih-Hsien Chiang in the 10th inning Saturday night to lift the Portland Sea Dogs to a 6-5 victory against the Richmond Flying Squirrels in front of a crowd of 8,769 at The Diamond.

Ryan Lavarnway led off the inning with a single, and Sheely entered as a pinch runner. Sheely advanced to second on a Jorge Padron sacrifice and took third on a groundout by Ryan Khoury.

Jason Rice retired the side in the 10th to earn the win. Rice pitched three innings of relief, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The Sea Dogs got the first run on four consecutive singles in the first inning. Portland made it 2-0 in the fourth when Anthony Rizzo walked, moved to third on Lavarnway’s single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Padron.

The Flying Squirrels scored once in the fourth and tied it in the fifth, but Clay Timpner was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Che-Hsuan Lin.

Richmond pushed across another run in the sixth on a single by Brandon Belt.

Portland rallied with three runs in the eighth. The first run scored on a single by Lavarnway. Padron followed with a two-run double that gave the Sea Dogs a 5-3 lead.

Richmond then scored in the eighth and tied it in the ninth.
