BANGOR — The Bangor Band is used to the “Star Spangled Banner” and “O Canada.” Its musicians even know the national anthems of Italy and Aruba.
But the anthem of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands is a new one this year. The band saw the sheet music for the first time an hour before playing it at the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Senior League World Series over the weekend at Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium.
The series for boys aged 14 to 16 continues all week, ending with the championship game Saturday.
Band president Lori Wingo tells the Bangor Daily News it’s worth the challenge of tracking down the sheet music when the boys’ faces light up in surprise when they hear their anthem.
