PORTLAND — The U.S. Coast Guard said the crew of a sailboat that had been missing for nearly 24 hours was found tonight near the Cape Cod canal.
The 36-foot sailboat left Portland Harbor late Tuesday night, but concerns started to grow after relatives of the crew reported they had lost cell phone contact with the vessel.
The sailboat, which is based in Bar Harbor, has been making its way down the coast toward its destination in Dartmouth, Mass.
Relatives of the sailboat’s owner, Ed Bleakly, and his passenger, Katherine Rose, notified the Coast Guard today of their concerns.
But around 8:30 tonight, the Coast Guard reported that Bleakly had made contact with officials.
