AUGUSTA  —  Jurors are being selected for the trial of a Maine man who is charged with murder in last year’s death of his 80-year-old mother in Monmouth.

Jury selection begins today in Kennebec County Superior Court for the trial of 44-year-old Kenneth McDonald, who has pleaded not guilty to killing his mother on Aug. 24, 2009. The trial is due to get under way Monday.

Police say Janice McDonald died of multiple sharp force and blunt trauma in the home she shared with her son in the central Maine town of Monmouth. Police said knives covered with what appeared to be blood were found in the kitchen and bathroom.
