AUGUSTA — Maine’s Energy Department says the average price of home heating oil has dropped a penny in the past week.

In its weekly survey of oil dealers, the Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said the average cash price for heating oil today was $2.57 a gallon. Northern Maine had the highest average price, while southern Maine had the lowest.

Kerosene was averaging $2.93 gallon, which was 1 cent lower than a week ago. Propane was selling for an average of $2.62 a gallon, down 2 cents since last week.
