SCARBOROUGH — The Scarborough Public Library will be closed for a week in September due to construction work outside the building.

The library is scheduled to be closed Sept. 20-26 due to construction in the parking lot and pedestrian pathways. The project begins Sept. 7 and is expected to last through October. But Library Director Nancy Crowell is hopeful that the library will not have to suspend services beyond the planned closure.

“We hope our visitors will understand the inconveniences will be temporary. We also want to assure everyone that we are working closely with Risbara Brothers Construction to provide safe access into the library during the project,” Crowell said in a statement.

The project will result in an expanded parking lot with additional general and handicapped use. Improved safety features include crosswalks, a drop-off zone, new sidewalks and unobstructed sight lines.

Updates on the project will be available at www.library.scarborough.me.us.
