FALMOUTH — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani headlined tonight’s fundraiser for Dean Scontras, the Republican candidate in Maine’s 1st Congressional District.
More than 250 people gathered under a white tent at Falmouth Country Club as Scontras was endorsed by Giuliani and guest speakers Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
During a special reception before the event, Giuliani said that Scontras is the kind of representative that Washington needs.
“He is a successful businessman and has a great understanding of limited government and keeping taxes low and keeping government spending under control, he said. “He is running against a candidate who has voted 98.5 percent of the time with (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi, about as much as anyone in Congress.”
Scontras is running against U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, a Democrat.
