WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.– Jared Turcotte ran for three touchdowns today to give the University of Maine its first football win this season, a 31-23 decision over Monmouth.

Turcotte of Lewiston scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter, a 51-yarder on a fourth-and-1 in the second quarter and a 7-yarder in the fourth quarter. Turcotte finished with 144 yards on 29 carries.

Turcotte’s 51-yard run gave UMaine (1-1) a 14-10 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Black Bears made it 21-10 on a 22-yard run by Derek Session, who also caught a 40-yard pass on the drive.

The Black Bears, who opened their season last week with a 3-0 loss at home to Albany, play at Syracuse next Saturday night.
