The Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization has raised more than $1.5 billion for breast cancer research since its inception in 1982. Sunday’s 5K race and walk at Payson Park was the first in Portland, attended by more than 1,300 people. It raised more than $100,000.Portland residents Melanie Leshane, Brenda Neuts, Lisa Nappi and Kelley Bues cheered in support of survivors at Portland’s first Komen Race for the Cure on Sept. 12.Skip Libby of Portland proudly wore a breast-cancer ribbon on his cheek, in support of his daughter Kristina, a cancer survivor.
