CASTINE – Junior quarterback Matthew Rende ran for 169 yards and three touchdowns as Maine Maritime Academy defeated the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth 42-0 in a college football game Saturday.

After throwing a touchdown pass to Nick Bourassa for the only points of the first half, Rende ran 84 yards on Maine Maritime’s first play of the second half for a 13-0 lead. He added a 1-yard run later in the third quarter and rushed for his final touchdown with 11:34 left in the fourth quarter for a 34-0 lead.

Jim Bower had 25 carries for 179 yards for the Mariners (2-0), who held the Corsairs (1-2) to 237 total yards and forced three turnovers.

Wade Mondoux had 11 tackles, including six solo, and Josh Elwell intercepted a pass for the second week.

SALISBURY 84, HUSSON 7: Dan Griffin threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Sea Gulls (3-0) overpowered the Eagles (0-3) at Bangor.

Griffin, who had five carries for 105 yards, scored on a 16-yard run just over four minutes into the first quarter. He also threw a 9-yard TD pass to Alex Boseman as the Sea Gulls ended the quarter with a 28-0 lead.

Husson’s Kash Keezer threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Ben Foss, and Lee Gustin kicked the extra point late in the fourth period.
