PRESQUE ISLE — Maine state park officials are celebrating a 145-acre expansion of Aroostook State Park with a public event this weekend.

Conservation Commissioner Eliza Townsend is expected to attend today’s event, as will northern Maine legislators and supporters. The morning event will be followed by a guided fall foliage hike up Quaggy Jo Mountain in the park environs.

The 145-acre addition increases Aroostook State Park’s size by 25 percent.

The purchase is expected to provide the park with hiking on scenic trails, protection of an existing trail used for cross country skiing that extends into the park, and more land for hunting.
